Electrical Emergencies

If an electrical emergency occurs, it’s important to know who to call and how to respond. Following are some helpful tips.

DOWNED POWER LINES

Who to call
Call your electric company immediately.
Chattanooga, TN > EPB > 423.648.1372
Dalton, GA > Dalton Utilities > 706.278.1313
Manchester, TN > Duck River EMC > 931.728.7548

How to respond
• Immediately report a downed power line to your local electric company.

• Avoid the area altogether. The area around the downed line, including the soil could also be energized, especially if the area is wet or damp.

• Never touch a downed power line or anything a downed line is contacting.

• Avoid driving over a downed power line. No one can tell if a electrical line is energized simply by looking at it.

• If a downed line comes in contact with your vehicle, stay inside the vehicle until help arrives.

• If there is an immediate danger of a vehicle fire, everyone in the vehicle should jump out, landing feet together. Avoid touching the ground and the vehicle at the same time. As each person jumps out of the vehicle, they should shuffle to a safe distance from the vehicle without raising his or her feet.
